Modalert, a wakefulness-promoting oral medication, has been shown to be an effective treatment of the excessive daytime sleepiness of narcolepsy. Compared with placebo, modafinil significantly improved ESS score, simulated driving performance, and simple reaction time in CPAP-treated patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea who had untreated severe daytime sleepiness.
